Taking the New Year’s Day plunge in Saundersfoot

One of Wales’ biggest outdoor swims has taken place in Pembrokeshire – smashing its record for participants.

Organisers said 2,028 revellers took the plunge in the Saundersfoot New Year’s Day Swim.

The 34th event witnessed crowds of people racing into the sea for charity – many in fancy dress.

Meanwhile, there was a record turn out for an annual swim in Rhyl with others held in Gwynedd, Vale of Glamorgan and Pembrokeshire.

Saundersfoot festivities chairman Martyn Williams said: “The village and wider community has done us proud again.

“Thirty-three years on and this event is getting bigger and better with thousands of pounds being raised for charity.”

And there was a record turn out in Rhyl, Denbighshire, when 171 “brave souls” took the plunge on New Year’s Eve for Rhyl RNLI’s annual swim.
